--------Music Industry--------
Overview: For generations, album art has been an essential part of listening to music. The media may have changed, from vinyl to cassettes to CDs, and then recently back to vinyl again, but the imagery created to represent our favourite bands' music has continued to be an vital and vibrant element of pop culture.
Research
Grime
Grime is a genre of electronic dance music that emerged in London in the early 2000s.

All of these are quite alike in terms of just upper body in the shot. Not much emotion showing through the artists face. My favourite look out of these were the table (last supper) the use off all black and the back lighting is very interesting.
Rap
Rap is one of the elements of hip hop as well as the distinguishing feature of most hip hop music. It is a form of rhyming lyrics delivered rhythmically over a musical backdrop of sampling, scratching and mixing by DJs.
This artist is an interesting character. The use of colour and make up is very obvious in these pictures but it works for the style of music. The bright colours and backgrounds are very interesting. The same as grime they are using head shots of the artist.
Indie Rock
Indie rock is a genre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom in the 1970s.
Different to Rap and Grime. The band The kooks indie rock albums are different. The use of black and white and the text popping a certain colour gives them a consistent look for the brand. The use of Images that are not the band is a different approach that is interesting as in my opinion taking a photograph solely of the band becomes complex and uninteresting sometimes.
Alternative
Alternative rock (also called alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a style of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s.
Oasis album coveres are iconic. The same as above they have used interesting approaches to all the albums with the same print (band name) which makes them stand out because it becomes something people already know.
Drum and Bass
Drum and bass (also written as "drum 'n' bass" or "drum & bass"; commonly abbreviated as "D&B", "DnB" or "D'n'B"), is a genre and branch of electronic music which emerged from rave and jungle scenes in Britain during the early 1990s.
The difference with drum and bass is that the DJ's use a variety of photographs that are nothing to do with them to promote the album. In my opinion I think this approach is interesting because the music is "different' to the norm they do not need to promote their faces. Just the sound they are producing.
Pop
Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form in the United States and United Kingdom during the mid-1950s.
The same as Rap and Grime. GAGA for pop has used photographs of her face. Some of these are very different however they all have been framed the same pretty much and promote her as the brand.
Well known Album covers
Above and below are well know covers- this could be due to the fact the artists are famous. These are all showing a mixture of graphics, typography and photography.
Research - Copy Cat album covers
These album covers are very alike. The use of black and white and the poses are very the same.
Subtle changes but the use of cartoon and images make these alike. They are 4 tiles. This is one idea I would i would like to recreate.
The use of groups and animals make these very alike - and the use of the greens and yellows in the type.
These poses are very alike but executed differently. one more central and the other more pointing over to the left.
These covers are alike. There a subtle differences with the colours that have been added. the use of added colour and framing is an interesting addition.
These are very alike covers. The poses are close to being the same, The difference are the back grounds used. The thriller cover is interesting as it is back lit differently.
These are very alike however again subtle differences. The type is different and the framing of the actual images is different.
These shots are interesting. Very out of focus and demon like. The framing is still very different and there are gels in one and not in the other.
One colour and the other black and white using different coloured back drops. These are very interesting - the type is also in the close to the same place aswell.
Very nicely lit- the one on the right has two obvious strip lights. The use of the black and white backgrounds both give a completely different feel.
These are my favourite- The use of the reflections are beautiful. The smiths one is my fave as I like the tone in the black and white with the colours of the type in the graphics.
Interesting album covers
All the albums above all very iconic and interesting. The lighting is nice throughout all using a variety of graphics, colour, black and white and typography.
Research - Repeated design styles
all these albums above are very alike. I really like the layering in the nas album. It shows more of a story at the beginning (front cover). I would like to do something like this for my album cover.
The blending of photography, graphics and illustration -
Further Examples
The blending of graphics, photography and illustration is very interesting. It is adding lots of character to the album covers. My favourite is the red popping of colour for Rhiannas album cover

Analysis
what worked -  I was so happy with the lighting for the final images show above. The two tone adds so much charterer to the image. The musician was really happy with the outcomes. My images are now being used for his EP and spotify account as well as his instagram and facebook. This has given me the confidence to offer to complete photographs for people.

My musican, MUA, Stylist all arrived on time and the shoot was a success.
As well as my digi op.

My assistant did not turn up however due to me testing I was able to hand over the lighting set up to another second year and they were happy to help.

what didn't - I did not bother using the PNG files in capture because I knew what I was shooting in terms of framing. However I plan to use for billboard as the framing for this is more complicated.

what did I learn - if you test and plan properly it can go smoothly and you can get good outcomes.
